Vermont car donations are making a big impact in the lives of mothers from the rural Northeast Kingdom.

On March 31, 2021, Megan Tattersall was handed the keys to a 2008 Nissan Versa. This was made possible by a generous Vermont car donor. While awarding the car to Megan, she commented on the difference it will make in the life of her and her children. She said, “Thank you so much for your donation. This vehicle will allow me to keep my job and provide transportation for my children.”

Megan’s local newspaper, the Newport Dispatch, shared the news of Megan’s life-changing gift.

Two more moms from the Northeast Kingdom also recently drove away in donated cars from Good News Garage.

Nikita Rich, of Lyndonville, and Heather Smith, of Gilman were both put in the driver’s seat in June of 2021. Their local newspaper, the Caledonian Record, shared their story.

Safe and reliable transportation in the form of a personal vehicle is a necessity in rural areas, such as the Northeast Kingdom. In these rural regions, it’s not uncommon for work, school, medical care, and groceries to be a 30-or-more-minute drive from home. Additionally, these areas aren’t served by public transportation and extreme weather can make getting around extremely difficult for much of the year.
